Note - Read the three posts below to learn more about the fate of the EOC I was checking the accountability services web site (http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/accountability/testing/eoc/sampleitems/1a), which is DPI's sample passage page for the English I EOC, and noticed that there were no new passages on the page from last year, or the year before that. The page directed me to Tammy Howard for questions. I sent her an e-mail and will up date on her response when I get one. Here is the e-mail I sent: Ms. Howard,
Thank you for providing English I EOC sample passages on the Accountability Services web page. I was wondering if there are any plans for releasing more sample passages or (better yet) another former EOC. Last year I found the Form I released test to be of great value in preparing my my students for the English I EOC.
Thank you for you time in this matter. By the way, the web site says to contact you at thoward@dpi.state.nc.us but the link on the page directs you to hkoons@dpi.state.nc.us.By the way, I sent it to both addresses, but the hkoons addressed bounced back right away. I don't know what will come of it, but maybe if she knows that we are looking at it and appreciating their efforts, then maybe they will give us more practices. It couldn't hurt.

Wow! It took Tammy Howard a mere 4 minutes to get back to me on this. I'm impressed with her promptness, can't say I like the answer too much, but I am happy with the speed in response. here is what she said:
Mr. Alford, There are no plans for additional item releases for any of the current tests. With the new assessments in 2012-13, there will be sample items released in the summer of 2012, and then after the first administration year (2012-13), an operational form of the tests will be released. Thank you for your inquiry, and thank you for letting me know about the web contact. Tammy
No new sample items until 2012. Two years. No new released tests for at least 3 years. However, the more interesting thing is the mention of new assessments. Does this mean a new batch of EOCs? Does this mean a new style of tests? If so, i haven't heard about it yet. I will contact Ms. Howard again and see what she has to say.
I am interested in reading what you think about this is response.

WOW!!!
Here is the response I got when I asked about the new assessment:
Mark, The next generation of assessments will consist of an English II test and there will no longer be an English I test. There will be new item types on some of the tests, but that work is still in development. Tammy
Thoughts?

I have been hearing for a while that the writing test from English II was going to be incorporated into English I. It has been unclear whether the test was going to be given in English I or English II.

Don't tell me that. I'm too lazy to teach the writing test. It seems to me that the writing test would better be served for 11th grade. That way you can actually see if the school is doing anything rather than judging a high school based on one year of a student's teaching.
